Musings from the crossroads of time, place and the kitchen table.

Food touches every nook and cranny of our lives. So expect to find:

About Me

I’m a home cook, food anthropologist and civil servant based in Baltimore.

Pennsylvania born, Florida bred. I grew up surrounded by a disorderly mix of Southern, Cuban, Quebecois and Jewish cuisines. After college, I spent 10 years eating my way through Chicago. Then, I moved to Ukraine to teach English where I was moved by the skills of home cooks and their blend of Galician, Crimean and Soviet dishes. Now I’m buckets of blue crab deep in Chesapeake Bay cookery.

Since 2001, I’ve also wandered through food scene of over 200 cities, across 28 countries and 32 US states. Between plane tickets I spent a few years as a chocolatier, a year learning the secrets behind Americanized Chinese food, a stint as a gelato maker, and half a decade sampling my way through the spirits industry.
